Our community faces an ageing population that requires urgent, culturally appropriate mental health and mental health outreach services. Therefore, the CMRH implements a community development model targeting multicultural community-dwelling members with mental health outreach services and counselling referrals to mental healthcare-specific services.
In support to respond to the need of seniors’ demands in our community, we have established the African Seniors Peer Group in partnership with the Sudanese Mothers Coalition in Victoria to run a series of social and educational activities to mitigate their mental health and wellbeing.
Social and education activities include social outings to learn more about Victoria or Australian history, music, dance, and develop innovative traditional African Arts and Crafts in Australia.
We have volunteers and health professionals who specialise in providing counselling services, mental health outreach, and consultation services that emphasise caregivers and clients’ education, management, and treatment of mental health issues or challenges.
CMRH is determined to deliver its mental health services through specialized information, interprofessional consultation, provision of resources services, educational service initiatives, and ongoing duty of care and role in the coordination of activity in the local communities through the Victorian Primary Healthcare System.
