As part of its ongoing partnership initiatives with government and private institutions, the Centre for Migrant and Refugee Health proudly participated in Quit’s anti-smoking campaign for multicultural communities.
On Monday, 7 October 2024, Quit launched a Victoria-wide campaign titled ‘The Hanky’, The Hanky, aimed at raising awareness about the harms of smoking within Arabic-speaking, Mandarin-speaking, and Vietnamese-speaking communities.
‘The Hanky’ Campaign Overview:
- Focuses on the visible and long-term impacts of smoking, using a Rorschach-style handkerchief to depict lung damage and highlight the connection between short-term symptoms and severe long-term conditions such as emphysema, chronic bronchitis, and lung cancer.
- Developed in collaboration with a multicultural specialist agency to ensure cultural relevance and impact.
- Delivered in three languages: English (with Arabic subtitles), Mandarin (with Simplified Chinese subtitles), and Vietnamese (with Vietnamese subtitles).
- Runs across television, radio, internet, and print from 7 October to 16 November 2024.
We encourage you to share campaign assets during this period to amplify the message, reduce smoking rates, and save lives. The campaign toolkit, https://www.quit.org.au/the-hanky-campaign-toolkit available pre-launch, provides resources to help you prepare for communications and activities.
Together, let’s inspire healthier choices and create smoke-free communities.
