At the Centre for Migrant and Refugee Health (CMRH), we are dedicated to advancing research that aligns with our mission of addressing the unique challenges and issues faced by migrant, refugee, and asylum-seeking populations. Our commitment extends to supporting researchers whose work contributes to policy development and advocacy that uplifts these communities.
Currently, CMRH is proud to support Maddie, a PhD candidate in Clinical Psychology at Monash University, who is conducting a critical research project exploring the relationship between emotion regulation, mental health, and wellbeing among African Australian youth from refugee and asylum-seeker backgrounds. This research, approved by the Monash University Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC #41328), is supervised by Associate Professor Laura Jobson.
CMRH’s Role in Community-Engaged Research
As a community-centred organization, CMRH prioritizes fostering partnerships and facilitating the active involvement of African Australian youth in meaningful research. By supporting initiatives like Maddie’s, we aim to amplify the voices of young people from diverse backgrounds, ensuring their experiences inform evidence-based solutions and contribute to better mental health and wellbeing outcomes.
We recognize the importance of collaboration between academic institutions, community organizations, and individuals to generate impactful research that drives meaningful change. Together, we can build stronger foundations for advocacy, policy reform, and improved services for underserved populations.
